"F serie headstock VS 50 s"

We can see here the headstock of a late 65 strat with a gold transition logo next a late 50 s small headstock. This is the very begining of the "F" serie, named after the stamped "F" on the neck plate and later on the back of the tuners as well. It s the most obvious and visible change that "CBS" made to the stratocaster after buying fender in the late 64. For some reason people often think that the "large headstock" was intoduced later with the "Tilt neck 3 screws" and "bullet" tross rod but they were not. These guitars still have a "normal" tross rod and 4 screws neck jointing and usually a "C shape" but rather thin neck. You can also notice that it has been refretted. Actually fender was offering a "large frets" option, similar to Gibson s frets since early 65 probably due to the large number of players who were refretting their guitars with larger frets. I personnaly dislike the large headstock and post 65 Fenders very much but some people love em, as we d never say enough, it s all a matter of taste !!!
